The Bonfire Boys and Girls

Already looking forward to next year !

The 8th November 2008 Brockham Bonfire was unfortunately rather wet and muddy, but people still came to support this charitable event. Many thanks to all who came and donated. We will be updating the site was details of the donation total's shortly.

My knowledge of Brockham is not very much.
I know of the Spar on the village green and such.
It sells quite a lot for such a small shop.
The pharmacy has medicine for all but I prefer the make-up.
From the village green there’s a view of box hill; very good for climbing up,
I know of these places and of things to do (like teas on the green they’re really supreme)
And which trees are best for climbing,
I’m a great fan of Brockham, it’s a fact I haven’t forgotten,
But best of all, from all the things I love, is Brockham bonfire
(don’t forget to wear your gloves or else you’re a silly ‘cause it get quite chilly!)

However, the idea has become a victim of its own success. Reading the list of sponsors last year took a full ten minutes and whilst reading out some captures the imagination of the crowd it was generally felt that the list was too long. However, we think firework Sponsorship is great and so many residents and their friends enjoy the contribution they can make in personalising a firework for the family. This year we will introduce a new system for Firework Sponsorship. 

Twelve ‘sponsor messages’ will be announced over the pa system on Bonfire Night. Three of these will be at the discretion of the Bonfire Committee and nine will be picked randomly. All Sponsors who notify us of their intentions with a message before the 1st October will see their message printed in the Bonfire Brochure and be placed on the Brockham Bonfire Web site. This will enable you to write a slightly longer message if you wish – up to 50 words. We will also place them on the other two Village web sites. The ‘hits’ on these web sites last year during bonfire week exceeded 50,000. This will also give us the opportunity to maintain a permanent record of firework sponsors and will give you the opportunity in years to come of looking back at your ‘sponsorship’.

The ‘Grand Finale’ of every display will be dedicated to all Firework Sponsors.
